Hello!

Long time no write!

Actually, it's been over a year, wow. I stopped using most internet stuff that was not related to school for a long time. I used tumblr from time to time, but nothing regular. But now I'm sort of back. I still mostly use Tumblr. So if any of you my friends have tumblr I'm yolanee.tumblr.com.

I also did a bit of a spring cleaning when it comes to communities I watch and friends. There were a few that unfriended me, but I guess they weren't friends in the first place. xD How have you been? Are any of you even active still?

My art stuff:

Here, have a Black Widow speed drawn in MSpaint under the cut:

Black Widow hidden under the cut )

Recently I've started playing Drawception. It's a really funny game I enjoy a lot. It's like a game of Telephone, except with pictures. You have to either draw or write in a span of 10 minutes what the previous written prompt or image represents. It's a lot of fun if you don't take yourself seriously. Try it! It's a bit like a drug, haha.

Here are some of my higher rated drawings:

Wow, the summer is nearly over (well it's not like it was here in the first place, damn rain). I need to start revising my latin and history.

Some sketches, doodles and speedpaintings:

River Song, Donna Noble, Martha Jones doodles
Jack Harkness, Rory Williams, Canton Delaware III doodles
Callum Keith Rennie as Lucifer, Some random clouds

Meme (stolen from several people):

The one who seduced you and screwed you over and broke your heart in a million pieces and laughed about it.

Merlin. I still like it, I still like the fandom...but the show keeps on breaking my heart. I just want Merlin to be happy and Arthur to know about Merlin and all the things he keeps on sacrificing and respect him and not treat him like a dirt on his shoes. Arthur always seems to do one step forward and not two but ten steps back. Well...at least they introduced Gwaine. I like Gwaine.

The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp in the sheets.
Star Trek: I like it still and I'll probably get excited about it again when the next movie comes out, but while I love it I don't think about it as much as I do about SGA or BSG or Star Wars

The mysterious dark gothy one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3a.m. at weird coffeehouses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized she really was fucking crazy.
Supernatural I guess. I'm not setting a foot in the fandom again.

The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor, and whom you'd still really like to get with again although you're relieved she doesn't actually live in town.
Battlestar Galactica: I love the show. I can watch it over and over again. But I don't really feel like participating in fandom...because it's all Kara/Lee now. I like the pairing enough and I even enjoy drawing them but where is the challenging and dark fic that left me depressed for days? I like you guys, but give me some creepy!Leoben and desperate Sam and Admiral Adama and awesome Helo. :(

The steady.
Star Wars. TAA TAA TAA TAA TAAAA TA DAA TAAAA TA DAA. Bwahaha. It's probably my most steady fandom. I've loved it ever since I was a kid. I loved Star Trek and Stargate: SG-1 too, but I didn't need any fandom for Star Wars like I do for Star Trek and Stargate. In fact, I wasn't part of the fandom until very very recently. It's just so awesome. I love the universe, I love the original stories, I love the game, I love the movies (with the exception of one).

The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with.
Flashpoint. Enjoyable show with interesting characters. I'm not invested in it, though I have my favorites there. I guess it's the character of Ed who keeps me from enjo

The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with but ultimately you're just good buddies 'cause the friendship is there but the chemistry ain't.
BBC's Sherlock. I enjoy the show, I like the fanfiction well enough...but not enough to be bothered. I'm looking forward to more, but not enough to go into frenzy about news.

The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool chick except it's never really gone anywhere.
Sanctuary: I want to like it. It has Amanda Tapping. It has Kavan Smith and David Hewlett in webisodes. WHY CAN'T I ENJOY IT? I don't know. I want to like it.

The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at her and thinking, "her? how the hell did she land all these cool guys?"
There's a lot of those...but Let's go with Hetalia. Seriously? How can you guys read/watch that crap? It's not funny. Where's the wit? Where's the satire? And it doesn't help that the fandom is crazy as it is. I'm sorry but Hetalia fandom is the worst one I know.

The one who gave you the best damned summer of your life and who you measure all other potential partners against.
The Stargates (without Universe): I always come back to it. No matter what I'm watching or what I'm reading I always migrate back to it. The fandom (with its awesome fanfiction and awesome people and awesome meta) spoiled me for any other fandom. This is what fandom looks like guys.

The one you recently met at a party and would like to get to know better and who you think you might have a crush on.
The Alphas. I like it! It's still new though so I'm not sure where will it go.

The old flame that you wouldn't totally object to hooking up with again for a one night romp if only he cleaned himself up a bit.
Torchwood. I'm sort of enjoying the new series but not enough to watch every episode. It's not interesting to me...There's too many shows like that out there, we don't need another. Except we apparently do. Boring. Well kudos for mentioning Ianto :(

Your hot new flame.
The Eagle is probably the newest. Well who would be able to resist. Hot Channing Tatum as a roman soldier. Even hotter Jamie Bell as angry slave (and wow when did Billy Elliot grow up!). I enjoyed the story and I like the movie and the fandom isn't half bad either. It's nice to be in a smaller fandom

The one who stole your boyfriend.
X-Men First Class: As a long time fan of all things X-men I am partly excited it brought in so many new fans...but then I see all those chibi doe-eyed Xaviers and Macho!Eriks and the bashing of Mystique and Emma and all those excuses for the racism and I'm disgusted again. I have dislike/hate relationship with XMFC just like Hetalia.

Some thoughts + link to my art

Long time no see! I forgot to update my LJ for a bit. I think I'm getting used to tumblr ( but I still comment on your entries). Well, here are some of my thoughts (they accumulated!)

Alphas:
I really enjoyed the first episode! It was well paced and interesting. I'm interested in all the main characters right from the start (except maybe Bill, but I don't like my jerks the way he's portrayed so far). Um and the poster for the series? Is it only me or does someone else see Bill Adama in the upper middle picture? I totally thought it's Eddie Olmos. :D

I'm definitely going to be watching it.

Torchwood:
Interesting I didn't hate Gwen and didn't mind her appearing on screen. I sort of enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if I like it yet. It still feels too much like Children of Earth. I missed Captain Jack though.

X-men: First Clas:
I...didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Maybe it's partly because I've been fan of X-men for so long or maybe it's partly because I really like Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen...but it's definitely because I had a lot of issues with the movie. I liked James McAvoy, he's a talented actor and that's no exaggerration. We all know what the sixties in USA were like race and gender wise...but the sixties were not only about communists and cuban missile crisis - they were  about fight for gender and race equality as well. And I'm sorry, but having EVERY main female character in her underwear or less (especially the scene with Emma really felt like the writers just wanted to see the actress undressed, it was unnecessary and they could have showed her powers off in different way) and killing the only black character off is very problematic.  X-men were always about equality and fight for freedom to express yourself the way you are. It wouldn't have been that bad if the directing made the exploitation of women look bad, but the camera kept focusing on their bodies. Yeah. Way to do it wrong.

It didn't really feel like it's set in sixties either. The only person who looked 60's ish was Moira (who I actually liked in this movie! What a surprise - I always hated her in every incarnation I saw her).

I didn't like Fassenbender's Magneto. He's a good actor, but his Magneto came off wrong to me. He felt like a goddamn Nazi and Fassenbender's shark smile doesn't really help. He didn't have none of that tortured genius to him...

Goddamn Havoc and Banshee got to be First Class' members? Lol.

Overall it was an enjoyable movie but there were problems that make it impossible for me to enjoy it fully and participate in the new fandom (I'm not going to even start on the problems with the fandom, because misogyny and racism is not unique to XMFC fandom). I'm lucky that X-men and marvel fandom is so big I can enjoy stuff I like without it overlapping with XMFC.

The most positive thing about the movie's existence (other than seeing little Storm, the Wolverine cameo and James McAvoy's acting) I can see is that since it more or less rebooted the X-men movie franchise we might get to see better Rogue and maybe they'll even put her and Gambit in the same movie! I'm so hoping for that. And maybe Cyclops who's not such a douche (like the current X-men: Legacy one...I'm enjoying that version of him!)

Just please new X-men fans don't say you're expert on X-men when you watched only one movie. I don't mind that you only like the movie, but when you claim to understand the source material better than someone who spent years stanning it...yeah. It's like saying to a Trekkie you know everything about Star Trek from watching the newest movie. :D You don't need to be a fan of more than the movie, really. It's okay to only like the movie. I for example don't like Lost in Space TV show but I love the movie.

Betty Andrews' drawing on the right side of the brain:
Started reading it today. I want to improve my drawing skills  and stop seeing in symbols. I think I hate past me a little at the moment. Spending so much time copying my favorite mangakas....damn you, past me, damn you.

The first task is to draw three things to show your current ability: self-portrait, some human from imagination and your own hand. I finished

Changing majors:
So it's official today. I changed my major from History to English/Latin. Huzzah! Or maybe not. We'll see haha.

Brave (upcoming movie):
Here is a link to the trailer. I'm looking forward to that! Her hair looks so amazing.

Daily sketches #4 plus hockey and Doctor who

Sketches:

I'm sort of glad that my tablet broke down. I've started using traditional media again and it's so relaxing. I haven't felt so relaxed while drawing in a long time. I suggest ink sketching to anyone who needs to get their mind of anything. Well...it works for me. I always feel as if I am hypnotized while ink drawing. Plus you don't use eraser.

I love gladiators. I love to draw them. I need more reference on them though...Reference for the drawings in the first picture came from conceptart. Reference for the next two came from various fashion sites.

Warning for a naked lady (boobs and lady parts):

Hockey:

LATVIA YOU SUUUUUCK. Not really, it was pretty equal game! Latvia team was great if a little too defensive.

End results 4:2 for Czech Republic.

Doctor Who:

OMG OMG OMG.

I love Moffat's storytelling. I know people don't like the way he deals with characters, but I like it. I always stay for the plot. Characters can get expanded in fanfiction. I don't need characterization RTD style (which I think really sucks).

And now for the episode:
Spoilers, sweetie )

So overall I think that the episode was brilliant, one of the best I've seen (at least one of those I've enjoyed the most). But I'm left feeling sad. :(

Daily sketches #2 plus spoilers

Easter:
Is finally over, yahooo. I got rid of all painted eggs too.

Few sketches inspired by an old RPG
:
Time taken: A BBC's Sherlock Episode

Doctor Who:

OMG NEW DOCTOR WHO. OMG AND IT HAS MARK SHEPPARD! I just love that guy. He's so awesome. And his twitter is fun.

Spoilers sweetie )

Sherlock (BBC):

Finally saw the last episode - The Great Game. Can I say OMG. I was good and stayed away from spoilers, even though it's a year after it aired. So. Can we all say an insane cliffhanger! I love Cumberbatch's acting more and more. His expressions are priceless. I know a lot of people don't like Martin Freeman and think his acting (and the character of Watson) is really uninteresting and boring, but in my opinion that's a good proof he's a good actor. He's able to make a war veteran with troubled mind and a good doctor into at first glance "bland" character. I was a little scared they'd try to make him come off as House, but since Holmes is the asshole of the duo, it'd be weird. So yeah, the last episode was great. Can't wait for the next ones since they'll be remaking my two favorite stories: The hound of the Baskverville and Scandal in Bohemia (Viva la Bohemie)!

The Hobbit:

The cast looks awesome. Martin Freeman as Bilbo sounds awesome. And Leonard Nimoy appearing? What is it? A geek's dream or what.

I might have to put my dog down...she's getting sicker and tonight she completely stopped recognizing us and attacked us. She didn't bite anyone, but her aggresivity is getting worse. I'm starting to get afraid of her which isn't helping anything itself and it's only making her behavior worse.

I don't want to do it. But she's  starting to be a treath.

I just. Yeah. :(

I need to calm myself down, so I won't make her more nervous, but it's really hard.

I can't even use my usual cheering up strategies since they involve kittens and puppies, hah. Well I'm going to read some awesome GEN Sherlock Holmes fanfictions.
